Criminal Justice Overview, Lucas County Ohio
Commitment to Fairness and Transparency
The Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office recognizes the importance of keeping the public informed about our work while ensuring fairness in the justice system. We believe in the free flow of information but must respect ethical and legal guidelines to protect the integrity of ongoing cases. As legal professionals, we follow rules designed to ensure public statements about investigations or cases don’t jeopardize anyone’s right to a fair trial. This means:
-
We can share general information such as the charges involved, the status of an investigation or information found in public records.
-
We cannot make public comments that might unfairly influence a case such as opinions on someone’s guilt or innocence or details that could prejudice a jury.
-
In some cases, like warnings about public safety, we may release additional information to protect the community.
We strive to balance transparency with protecting the rights of everyone involved—victims, witnesses, the accused and the public. While we welcome questions from the media, some details must remain confidential to ensure justice is served.
